MSC Certified Fisheries in Iceland

Icelandic Sustainable Fisheries is owner to fisheries certificates, certified according to the MSC standards for cod, haddock, golden redfish, saithe, herring, capelin, Atlantic wolffish, plaice, blue ling and tusk.

Stakeholder companies of ISF have access to ISF‘s fisheries certificates which allows them to export their products as MSC certified.

Membership to ISF is open to Icelandic companies that want to be able to export MSC certified marine products.

ISF currently has fisheries certificates for twelve species but the number of certified fishing gear varies between species.

ISF is owned by companies that produce and export fish from Iceland and the company‘s objective is to increase the number of MSC certified species.

The issuance and registration of fisheries certificates requires proof of eco-friendly fishing, stock strength and responsible and sustainable fisheries management. Icelandic fisheries are at the forefront of sustainable fishing and interaction with the ocean's ecology.
